Allegany County Forests

Allegany County Forests

The forest land owned by Allegany County consists of approximately 2050 acres of land. Lots are located in the Towns of Allen, Amity, Angelica, Birdsall, Grove and West Almond.
Management practices to be implemented on County Forests include timber stand improvement, access road maintenance and development, monitoring of lots and boundary maintenance.

This plan was developed by Paul Kretser based on evaluations of each lot in 2011. This plan lays out the management strategy of each lot for the next 10 years and beyond. Each lot was broken down into many different stands based upon the type of tree that existed. Included with the lots is a recommendation on management practices that need to take place. Each stand in the report has three maps included. One is the aerial photo with the boundaries outlined, the second map is a topographic map with boundaries outlined and the third map is a break down of the lot into separate stands.

Some of the activities that are recommended besides harvesting timber include the following: boundary markings, thinning of cull trees and eradication of invasive species. The District will setup a rotation of lots to review each year and perform boundary line marking.

The next update of this plan should occur in 2021.
